The West Restaurant of Vancouver is well known for its use of local ingredients with its West Coast delicacies. It has even received numerous awards and praises from culinary critics and magazines. Vancouver Magazine, for example, awarded West Restaurant for the fourth consecutive year as the “Restaurant of the Year” and recognized the restaurant as the best among the region. But aside from their outstandingly scrumptious food, West Restaurant is also known for its wine list, cocktails, and bartending.
Recently at the 2010 Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival, West Restaurant garnered a Platinum Wine List Award for the third consecutive year. This award is as equally significant for the restaurant as gaining recognition for having the best-tasting food. Good food can only be paired with good wine and because the West Restaurant has the best food, only the best wine can be paired with them. One of the great things to do in Canada is tasting the different wines of West Restaurant along with their great food.
Other wine awards received by West Restaurant include the ‘Best of’ Award of Excellence by Wine Spectator for the eighth consecutive year and Award of Unique Distinction by Wine Enthusiast Magazine.
West Restaurant also serves heavenly West Coast cocktails. They have Classic Aperitif Cocktails, classic, and antique cocktails. To name a few, there’s the Kir, the blend of Borgogne Aligote and Crème De Cassis Champagne Cocktail, containing Angostura Soaked Sugar Cubes and Moet Champagne the Bermuda Rum Swizzle which has Goslings Black Seal Rum, Fresh Lime, Orange, Pineapple, and Falernum Syrup and Sazerac Royal, which may be a mix of Hennessy or Cognac, Peychauds Bitters, Absinthe, Sugar, and some Lemon Zest. But since you’re in Vancouver, a must-try is the Vancouver, a mixture of Plymouth Gin, Punt E Mes Vermouth, Benadictine Angostura Orange Bitters, and Lemon Zest.
You can get hold of West Restaurant’s wines and cocktails either at the dining room or at their bar. The dinner, dessert, and cheese menu will still be provided at the bar together with the wine and cocktail menu. Be at the company of Barista David Wolowidnyk at the bar, who was named the 2008 Bartender of the Year at the Urban Diner Restaurant Awards and your night will be transformed from boring to ecstatic right at the cherry wood bar of West Restaurant.
